November 11 & 12, 2006
For today’s installment of my Messages About Purpose and Strategy, I want to reemphasize what I shared in the services last weekend. I concluded my series of vision blurbs by spelling out our vision for this year with an acrostic.
Vision: Dayspring must continue to take hold of our future with energy. Our activities and achievements should be motivated by the big picture. Vision helps us see that what we do daily is connected to our eternal purpose.
Intercession: This means making requests of God. We need the power of God to do the will of God and it is accessed through prayer. Prayer played a big part in early days of this church. Let’s go forward by getting back to prayer. I’ll be presenting two different six-message series on prayer during 2007. During the second one, which will take place in the fall, the Children and Student Ministries will join in so the whole church will be focused on prayer together.
Stability: It is hard to achieve healthy growth in an environment of upheaval. Too much change too fast freaks people out and we lose confidence. Part of our vision is to avoid disunity and disasters. Stability is both a means to health and a result of health.
Involvement: Christianity is not a spectator sport. One kind of growth is the movement from being a spectator to being a participant. Every member has a ministry and every member is a minister. We want people involved.
Outreach: We do not exist for ourselves. We must get our attention off our navels. The good news is so good that we shouldn’t keep it a secret. This year we will provide lots of evangelistic training opportunities and chances to reach out to friends and neighbors. It will culminate in the Salem Riverfest next summer. Maybe we should adopt the motto: Each one reach one!
New Life: We want each Dayspring attender to experience new life in Christ and then to draw new people to church and to Christ. This comes from all the above, but it also provides momentum.
Think of what role you can play in implementing this vision. The point is to glorify God by leading people to follow Jesus.
