For this week’s installment of my Messages About Purpose and Strategy, I want to lead you to better understand our responsibility as followers of Christ. The ultimate strategy we can employ in leading people to follow Christ is to reflect the light of God with our own lives. In order to illustrate this, picture the contrast between the Moon and the Sun. The Sun radiates light. The moon merely reflects it.
This is such a significant concept; just chew on it for a while. I don’t remember reading this idea anywhere, but it is so cool someone must have thought of it before. I can’t imagine that I made this up.
Back to the metaphor: it’s nice that we are not responsible to actually generate the light, just to reflect it. I’ve been able to read by moon light before, but the moon isn’t really making the light at all. It just sits there glowing because the sun is shining on it. He is the source, yet others can see if we are doing our job. One last thought: in order to reflect, you have to be reflective. Are you taking time basking in the light of God? Can people see his reflection in you?
