APRIL 14 & 15, 2007

In today’s installment of my Messages About Purpose and Strategy, I want to communicate about the importance of being well informed. We desire to honor God by leading people to follow Jesus. Learning what makes people tick helps us to serve them effectively. We won’t be able to influence people if we neglect learning about their needs, etc. This is certainly true in marriage. In fact, in 1 Peter 3:7 we find a verse which begins, “Husbands, live with your wives in an understanding way ...” The term translated, “understanding” is literally, “according to knowledge” (kata gnosin).

Church leaders need to apply this same principle. We need to lead the flock according to knowledge. Because of this, I asked my friends at our Executive Team Breakfast what we know about Dayspring and how this knowledge influences our program decisions. We talked about the local culture and our area's demographics. Now, think about who you want to lead Christ-ward. What do you know about how they think, what they like, and what they don’t like? What can you learn about their needs, wants, fears, aspirations, and pain? The more we learn about where people are at, the better we will be able to lead them to Christ.
