For today's installment of my Messages About Purpose and Strategy, I want you to consider the crazy nature of Christianity. Remember, we want to honor God. That is what it is all about. After all, he deserves glory. But the means of doing this seem counter-intuitive.
Consider some of the seemingly crazy things Jesus said. When discussing leadership, he said that those who want to be great should serve. After all, Jesus himself came not to be served but to serve. Read on in Mark 10:42-45. For Jesus, serving involved laying down his life! I think it does for us as well. The first will be last; the last will be first. It is all upside-down. This is the crazy part of Christianity.
Can you imagine the influence we could have in our families and in our community if we really followed Jesus in this way? The craziness continues throughout the Bible. Weakness leads to strength while strength leads to weakness. When we give we receive. When we hoard we are poor indeed. When we empty ourselves we are filled! To surrender is to succeed. It goes on and on.
The Bible presents Christianity as absolutely crazy. Are you?
