In today's installment of my Messages About Purpose and Strategy, I'll say something about motivation. What moves us forward? I'm convinced it will be vision, but not just any vision. What is needed is a vision of Jesus.
When we use the word vision in a metaphorical sense, we are referring to a motivational picture of what can be. This kind of vision allows us to envision a preferable future. Think of this: The Bible says that no one has seen God the Father in his essential nature, but that Jesus came to make the Father known. Jesus exposes, explains and reveals God. He is God incarnate - God that can be seen and touched. When we picture him we tend to see him as a helpless, precious baby in the manger, or as the silent, suffering lamb of God. But we would do better to see him as he was seen in John's vision while on Patmos Island, recorded in the book of Revelation. Check out chapter 1, verses 10-18. That is a motivating vision! Like John we should fall on our faces and obey Christ's every word.
