MAY 26 & 27, 2007
For today's installment of my Messages About Purpose and Strategy, I want you to take a fresh look at the Great Commission. It says something about what we are supposed to be doing and how we do it.
Matt 28:18-20 - Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."
The grammer emphasizes that Jesus commanded us to make disciples (that is the only verb in the imperative). And what does this involve? Three more verbs are participles here: going, baptizing and teaching. What a powerful commission! As we go, baptize and teach, we are involved in the greatest pursuit of all time: making disciples of Jesus Christ.
