JUNE 9 & 10, 2007

This week in our pastors' meeting I talked about how my landscaping project is analogous to our efforts to build this church. To see new life, we need to put out a lot of effort over a long period of time, but it is worth it - I believe in beauty!

Sometimes the progress is slow, or even invisible, so patience is needed. In the case of our yard, following a certain sequence in the plan proved to be very important, and so it is with the implementation of our strategy for fulfilling our purpose as a church.

When you are trying to create something beautiful, you don't get to do just what you want to do in the order you desire. Certain things come first and it is important to get the order right. We talked about what is needed to turn dirt into a lawn. There were many points of comparison and I trust that the analogy was a helpful tool. But, after the meeting was over, I realized that I had neglected one important feature of what it took to pull off our landscaping project. Beyond a plan, some patience, and lots of effort, it also cost money.

Though we saved a lot of money by getting good values, we spent some too. In the same way, there is a price tag on what we want to do here. Our weekly offerings fuel the machinery of ministry. When I give, I know I'm investing in the creation of something beautiful. I hope you share my joy in giving. There is no better place for the resources entrusted into my care. I support this ministry! I believe in it!
