NOVEMBER 17 & 18, 2007

In today's installment of these Messages About Purpose and Strategy, I'll communicate a little something about what can keep us motivated. What drives us to spread the Word of God? Why should we continue relentlessly to follow Christ and lead others to follow? Even in the face of adversity, what compels us to continue using every available strategy to fulfill our purpose?

The key to staying motivated is to understand what we have to offer. Refresh your mind on the meaning of the gospel. Have you ever been really thirsty and unable to quench your thirst? Remember what it was like when life-giving water met your deepest need?

People are dying out there. We have the mission of pointing people to the source of living water! What Jesus offers is available for all. "Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, 'If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink'" (John 7:37).

It's not about us. We aren't the substance, just the dispenser in a desert. You're on a search and rescue team and people are in danger. They are needy. There is urgency. What we do isn't something to be taken casually. The severity of the situation empowers us to stay very motivated.

When all is said and done, Jesus will have the last word. "It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To him who is thirsty I will give to drink without cost from the spring of the water of life" (Rev 21:6).

May your motivation soar as you consider your responsibility to let others have a drink of forever- refreshment!
