MARCH 1 & 2, 2008

This weekend we will celebrate the sixteenth birthday of our church. Yes, Dayspring was born sixteen years ago! On my sixteenth birthday my mom took me to the DMV and I aced the driving test! Look out, world! At that point, two new realities dawned on me: opportunity and responsibility.

The first big impression that hit me had to do with the new opportunities that would be available. I thought, "We can really go somewhere now! Let's get moving!" In the same way, our sixteenth birthday as a church should awaken us to all the opportunities available. We're growing up. Let's get up and go - pedal to the metal! It is high time we get moving.

Opportunities are exciting. But the thrill of turning sixteen was tempered by the second big impression that hit me on my birthday. I was overwhelmed with a sense of responsibility. Operating a motor vehicle is a big deal! As a church, I think we should also be moved to awe over the nature of our responsibility. Ministry is fun, but it's very serious as well.

We're not kids anymore. Our maturity brings a renewed sense of both opportunity and responsibility. Let's get moving, for so much is at stake!
