May 24 & 25, 2008
Back in January I got on board with the idea to read the Bible through this year. Like many of you, I'm following the reading schedule from those life journals we promoted. Everyday something jumps out at me. Recently I was impressed with what I read in 1 Chronicles 29.
The context is that King David was raising funds for worship. This struck a chord with me because here at Dayspring our monthly giving has been running $15-20,000 less per month than we really need to support the ministries we've committed ourselves to offer. This can't continue and we don't know what to do, so we are looking to the Lord and praying for a revival in our passion for giving. And a revival is just what the text of 1 Chronicles describes. Once the leaders set the example, the people were passionate about bringing their gifts to be used for ministry purposes.
David recognized that the resources used to fund ministry all come from God's hand. "All of it belongs to you," he went on to pray (29:16). When this is our mentality, then we will experience what they did, a willingness to give from hearts of integrity filled with joy (29:17).
