September 13 & 14
I decided to cheat a little bit in my daily Bible reading. This month the schedule is calling for me to read several Bible books, including the Book of Revelation. What I mean by cheating is that I listened to it on my iPod, rather than reading it. In this week's installment of my Messages About Purpose and Strategy, I'll share something about that experience.
With my earbuds (little earphones) in place, I strapped on my bike helmet and started to pedal northeast. I'm not sure if the practice is all that safe (you can't hear traffic as well) so don't try the same, but it was certainly a wild experience to hear all of John's Revelation in one sitting.
As the fields passed by and the hills appeared in front of me, I continued along listening to how God's Word reveals what will be in the end. The single most striking aspect of the experience was the overwhelming emphasis on God's glory. All things exist to honor the One who deserves our worship and adoration forever!
The 22 chapters ended before I arrived back at the office. In those last few miles my mind wandered to how we do what we do here (the strategies we employ to fulfill our purpose). I found myself praying this way: "God, you are absolutely magnificent. Revelation impressed that fact on me today. May we only engage in practices here at Dayspring that give you the glory you deserve. And keep us from dishonoring you in any way. Lead us to love you in purity and with passion. For you deserve our best and so much more!"
