October 11 & 12
And now for something completely different: this week I'll use my Messages About Purpose and Strategy to give you a movie review.
I don't get to the theater often (understatement), but Annie talked me into going on Sunday night. She said we had a discount coupon, so I reluctantly said I'd go. When the lady behind the glass said it would be $12 for two tickets, I figured that the coupon had expired. No, Annie informed me, "$6 each is a discounted rate! It's usually $9.50." You're kidding me! And what is all this whining I hear about the economy? People apparently still have enough money to burn $4/gal gas in their V-8 engines on the way to spend $30 for two movie tickets and some popcorn and soda! (I'd rather sneak in some peppers in my pocket.) Pardon my digression.
I want to recommend that you go see Fireproof (view the trailer at www.fireproofthemovie.com). Invite a friend that is struggling. But don't catch them off guard; be sure to let them know them that the message of hope in Christ is very overtly presented. We don't want anyone getting defensive because they feel "preached at" or feeling manipulated because your invitation seems like a bait and switch technique. The movie is all about the power of God's love to break down walls of bitterness in marriage.
Think of this movie as a tool in your hands to glorify God by reaching out in love to more people. These kinds of invitations are part of a relational strategy to fulfill our purpose on this planet. Bring people to God and bring God to people! Don't let this opportunity pass you by - the movie is an honor to Christ! And it is worth $9.50, but even better on a coupon.
