October 18 & 19

In last week's installment of my weekly Messages About Purpose and Strategy, I whined about the high price of movie theater tickets. That wasn't my point, but I did engage in some complaining, I'll admit it. An alternative to paying $9.50 at the ticket window is to wait until the film comes out on DVD, which the last Indiana Jones movie just did!

Reviewers pointed out that Harrison Ford has aged. Duh! After 20 years, I expect people to look different. The notable part is that he aged pretty well.

My son said he saw an interview with the younger actor in the film, Shia LaBeouf. Apparently this young man was very respectful to Harrison Ford when they first met. I like hearing that. There should be honor for age.

The Bible makes a point that older men should be esteemed and that older women should lead younger women. I want this principle to operate here at Dayspring. Mentoring is a clearly biblical strategy.

We want to glorify God. In order to fulfill this purpose, we need to utilize strategies that are effective. Older adults should not be shelved, but mobilized to build the life of Christ into the next generation.

If you're young, look up to those who have more experience in life. See if you can't learn something from people of your parent's generation. And if you are older, then get involved once again. You've got a lot to offer. Hum the Indiana Jones theme music and jump into action! Older can be better!

By the way, if you want to enjoy movies without having to hear all the foul language, buy one of those black boxes that filter out the obscene words. We've had ours for years and it works great. It is called TV Guardian. Another brand is Swear Free TV.
