November 1 & 2
In this week's installment of my Messages About Purpose and Strategy, I'll tell you about this week's staff meeting. You really should have been there, although we didn't have any goodies.
We started off by watching a couple staff members volunteer as actors to demonstrate how much can be communicated without words. They acted out a few vignettes, demonstrating emotions with body language alone.
We then transitioned to thinking about building language. Yes, even our facility says something. We walked out into the Oregon autumn and pretended we were pulling into the parking lot. We shared every observation as we walked up to the doors and into the lobby. We noticed a need for more visible signs. We also noted some things that need to be fixed or moved.
While we want our facilities to represent us well, we all know that our people communicate "louder" than our landscaping, buildings and furnishings. When you walk onto our campus, you are Dayspring. Others evaluate this church based on how they are treated here. Let's communicate Christ with words and without words as well.
After our morning exercise, the church staff re- gathered in a circle to pray for the needs of our body here at Dayspring. Make a habit of doing the same regularly. Let's ask questions that help us to see the church from the perspective of new people coming in, and let's bow before God and ask him to do a great work among us.
