November 29 & 30
In today's Message About Purpose and Strategy I want you to consider whom Jesus was talking to when he gave the great commission (recorded in Matt. 28:18-20)? I believe it applies to you!
Jesus told his disciples to make disciples. They were very ordinary men. The disciples were just rough fishermen! Any of them could have felt inadequate and excused himself by saying, "But I'm just a laborer." Similarly, some of you don't feel up to the task, "I'm just a stay at home mom," or "I'm just a mechanic."
Joni Erickson Tada wrote an article entitled: "God used Sinners, Weaklings and Misfits." She pointed out crazy examples of the many less-than- perfect people God used: Jacob, Tamar, Rahab, Bathsheba, Peter... the list goes on. Joni wrote, "Moral, physical, and social weaknesses share something in common. All three are pins that prick the balloon of our self-importance, all are magnifying glasses which reveal every spot and stain of pride. They are grinders that pulverize our human strength into hamburger until we lied face down in the dirt eating the gravel of our helplessness. Our weaknesses are megaphones that shout to God: 'This person ain't nothing without you Lord.'"
I think that's a good place to be. God uses anyone who needs him. God wants to use you, despite your rough spots. In fact, your rough spots might make you more useful! Jesus has commissioned you to go and make disciples. May we all at Dayspring follow Jesus in a way that leads others to follow!
