December 13 & 14
In today's Message About Purpose and Strategy, let's consider how easy it can be to talk about Jesus this time of year. People have Christmas on their minds. It doesn't take much courage to just open your mouth and communicate about what makes this season special for you.
It's a shame that most Christians report that they've never led anyone to Christ. Why don't we reproduce? Maybe we neglect opportunities to talk about Jesus because we picture a pattern of evangelism that doesn't fit our personality. We think of witnessing like flossing: an onerous obligation. We labor under misconceptions because we've too narrowly defined what witnessing can look like. Some picture a both-barrels approach that ends up wounding others.
What many Christians forget is that effective sharing takes place very naturally. It is an extension of who we are in Christ. Witnessing isn't just something you do. A witness is something every Christian becomes as he or she is empowered by the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:8). A witness is expected to tell what he or she knows. This season, take a good look at Jesus and tell others what you see.
Let them know why you worship God.
