January 3 & 4

In today's Message About Purpose and Strategy, I want to let you know about our next series of weekend sermons. It starts next week and I'm calling the series, Soul Food. We're devoting five consecutive weeks to learn more about God's Word. (Actually, every weekend message is based on the Bible, but this series will actually be about the Bible.) I will cover the Bible's origin, authority, accuracy, reliability, and so on. The series will culminate in some very practical lessons on how to get into God's Word so that it gets into you!

As I was preparing each of the messages for the Culture Shock series we just finished, it occurred to me that everything I was saying about those hot topics was based on the Bible. My opinion about homosexuality, abortion, creation, or any other controversial issue isn't very important. But what God has to say about life is crucial. He wrote the book. He knows the score. Like a manufacturer, he's given us our owner's manual. Do we consult it? We can also view the Bible as a love letter. Do we pour over every word?

But can we trust what we read? What makes us think that such an old book has anything to say to us these days?

As we get to know and trust the Scriptures, we will be better equipped to glorify God by leading friends to follow Christ. Come to worship during the Soul Food series to gain a fresh appreciation for the power of God's Word.
