October 30 & 31, 2010

I was talking with a friend the other day and he said, "I get that we don't earn our salvation, but receive it freely. Yet doesn't this take away the motivation to be good? Why honor God if our obedience doesn't make us right with him? Is doing right just as an expression of thanks for a gift we didn't deserve?" He was getting it. In this installment of my Messages About Purpose and Strategy, I'll simply remind you of why we follow God. Jesus gave his life for us. We were guilty of a capital offense (Rom. 6:23 - the wages of sin is death) but Jesus served our death sentence. He died in our place. Now we are free to live his life. Our old way of living has come to an end. Gal. 2:20 - "I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me." We now pursue his values and operate according to his will. Here at Dayspring, we never want to forget the supernatural aspect of the Christian life. It is his life we live now for ours ended. 2 Cor. 5:15 - "And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again." Our lives now belong to Jesus, who gave himself for us and lives in us today!
